There is some formatting difference in the second part of the postal code that is still not apparent to me, but it was enough to cause part of the postal code to drop off in the merge.Īt this point, I would not necessarily expect Publisher to copy the formatting, but I would expect it to include all of the text without silently dropping some of the information. The second record is a copy of the original cell with the postal code that caused me such an issue. In the data merge result, the first word, “missing,” is indeed missing. In the first record, the text “missing word” has bold text applied only to the second word. To demonstrate, I have an example merge made from the attached files: It appears that text formatting inside a cell (not the whole cell) causes part of the text to be dropped in merge. A couple hours’ testing later, I have the issue narrowed down. I was creating mailing labels from an Excel file, and I happened to notice that a postal code of one of the addresses was missing half of the postal code.
